Bulletproof Oakley sounds like an extravagant name for such a tiny little pup – until you hear his whole story.
When he was just a few months old, Oakley ended up with a bullet in his spine.
It wasn”t discovered that his disability was inflicted by humans until rescuers took him from the shelter.
She immediately took interest in the little guy and arranged to meet the pup, who has no use of the whole lower half of his body.
Karcanes took the pup in as a foster, but inevitably ended up adopting him.
Oakley gets along just fine in his wheelchair…
But it took a little time for his three new siblings to get used to Oakley and his disability,
Caring for Oakley, though, has proven to be even more of a challenge than Karcanes originally thought.
The pup took to chewing on his own paralyzed paws, eventually leading to an amputation.
Karcanes has devoted a large portion of her time to raising awareness of animal abuse via Facebook.
Karcanes finds it hard to fathom the amount and severity of animal abuse, even though she”s been involved with rescues for some time.
Oakley”s story may not have the perfect ending, as he could have lived a completely healthy life if humans hadn”t been so cruel to him…
