Taylor Swift isn’t a regular international pop star. She’s a cool international pop star. So, befitting her role, she was required to throw her squad member Lorde a
fetch party for her first non-teen birthday.
They grow up so fast, don’t they?
But unlike your birthday bashes in your mom’s basement, Swift hosted Lorde’s (whose real name is Ella) party at a trendy West Village restaurant, ZZ’s Clam Bar, Monday night, inviting several celebrities, including Rachel Antonoff, Lena Dunham, Tavi Gevinson, and Mae Whitman, to celebrate the occasion. The ever-hospitable Swift even invited some non-famous friends of Lorde’s from her hometown in New Zealand, because birthdays are a time for famous people to rub elbows with us common folk.
In true parental form, Swift shared pictures of Lorde’s bash on Instagram to seemingly embarrass her in front of millions of social media users. Gen X’er Lorde also posted some birthday memories online to thank her “mom.“
“Had the best birthday party i’ve ever had tonight surrounded by my NYC family,“ Lorde captioned an image of her being kissed by her hip aunt, Karlie Kloss, and Swift. “All organized by Tay who is as she says, ‘a mom with no kids.’ I am ur kid and u love me so hard I could burst. Here’s to our 3 magic years of best friendship and more moments like this squished between angels.“
Swift, who definitely has a future in party planning, pinched no penny when it came to showering her the new 20-year-old. The party—surprisingly not held at Shake Shack where the two once shared burgers on park benches—included a chocolate cake, balloons and birthday party hats. What more could any child ask for?
Taylor even wore a trademark suburban mom outfit: Animal print. And she enlisted Aziz Ansari fill the role of creepy uncle:
And, like all mothers, Swift took it one step too far, harassing her adolescent with P.D.A. in front of all her friends. Not cool,
Next time, Swift should consider renting out Disney Land like cool mom Kim Kardashian Westdoes for North.
