Everyone hates losing. If you enter a competition or play a game, your goal is obviously to win. Not only does it generally suck to lose, but it”s even worse to see your opponent gloat about their victory.
So when this high school athlete lost an important wrestling match, he used it as an opportunity to define his character. He knew his opponent very well, and understood that he was facing a huge challenge in his personal life. For that reason, the defeated athlete wanted to set an example of excellent sportsmanship.
If more professional athletes took a page from this kid”s book, we would have a much different landscape in the world of sports. His humility and compassion really demonstrate what sports should be about.
